Our History

How it all started...

Early in 1970, even before the first 100 families had settled into the new community of Citrus Springs, a group of residents decided to form a mission church under the sponsorship of the United Presbyterians, Methodists, Southern Presbyterians, and the United Church of Christ. This group met in the Citrus Hills Recreation Center for the next 9 1/2 years. On July 29, 1979, came the long-awaited day... the groundbreaking for the first church in Citrus Springs.

In 1982 the congregation voted to adopt the name of "Community Congregational Christian Church" and to affiliate with the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches (NACCC), becoming the only Congregational Church in Citrus County. Today, as in the days of our founding, we are a warm and friendly church family of about 140 people. Our members come from all around Citrus County, with diverse backgrounds, both parochial and sectarian.

The roots of the Congregational Church go back to England, the Mayflower, and the early Plymouth and Boston colonies, where Congregationalists had a deep belief in God and loved the holy scriptures. We believe that where 2 or 3 are gathered in His name, He is present. Our calling cards are Faith... Fellowship... Freedom...
