Romans 8: vs. 26-28….(26) Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. (27) And God, who searches the heart knows what is in the mind of the spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. (28) We know that all things work for the good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.

Paul tells us in the letter to the Romans that to be a Christian (one of the saints) is a difficult path to follow. So much so that God in Christ provides us with the Holy Spirit to help us to sort out the path Jesus calls us to follow. An old song from the off-Broadway musical, “the Fantastiks’, has a song called, “Try To Remember’. The song invites the listener to recall the past and use it to build one’s future.

“Try to remember the kind of September when life was slow and oh so mellow…try to remember the kind of September when grass was green and grain was yellow…try to remember the kind of September when you were a tender and callow fellow…try to remember and if you remember then Follow, follow, follow”.

Similarly to the song, Paul’s letter invites us to get in touch with ways in which that Holy Spirit has inspired is in joyous and also difficult times. He tells us that tohose recollections guide us to where Christ leads. He calls us to have faith that all these things will ‘work together for the good’.

Prayer: Lord, we thank You that You have gifted us with the Holy Spirit to be out guide. Always remind us that the cross and the resurrection are part of the journey that unites us with You in comparable love. That love encompasses us and lifts us up. Thank You for our Lord Jesus who completes the circle of Your love. In Jesus name, Amen.
